The Kensington Orbit Trackball is a worthless piece of shit and you should not buy it, ever, even if it's the only
trackball you can ever have no matter where you look. Why?
- The trackball contacts get oil and dead skin gunk on them, jamming and slowing down the trackball. I find it necessary to
clean the contacts multiple times a day. I know that this issue is not common to trackballs as other trackballs I've used,
such as the Logitech T-RA18, while they do collect such gunk, aren't built in such a way that they collect in crevices around
the contacts and hinder the movement of the trackball.
- The scroll wheel sucks. It's actually a scroll ring, around the trackball in the center of the device, that you can spin
clockwise to scroll down and counterclockwise to scroll up. The supposed idea is that you can "fly through documents" and such
lovely advertising phrases. The reality is that if you try to move it at any decent speed, it causes random scrolling up and
down, such that you scroll down a few lines, scroll up a couple, scroll down some, up a bit, and all the spastic jumping
around of web pages is so irritating that I use page up and down more than I use the scroll wheel.
- Minor point: It comes with a horrible, narrow, hard, rubberized wrist rest attachment that must have been designed to give
you carpal tunnel and a huge bruise on the inside of your wrist. I've replaced it.
The trackball itself works decently (when it's not fouled up) but the failure of other important features makes this
trackball one to avoid. Cost me like $50 too. Shit sucks mang.
